Next week, the Andalusia Civitan Rodeo will ride into town, and organizers hope the event draws a huge crowd.
For the last 23 years, the local civic club has sponsored the Profes-sional Cowboy Assoc-iation sanctioned rodeo that features events such as saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and a host of roping events.
“It’s also a first for the Andalusia Civitans to have two rodeo events with three shows in one weekend,” said Civitan member Jan White. “And we’re hoping this year’s rodeo draws some of PCA’s best performers.”
The event will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Covington Center Arena. Gates will open at 6 p.m., with rodeo events beginning at 7 p.m. with the Grand Entry.
Proceeds from ticket sales go to assist local charities and fund scholarships.
“During the past two decades, more than $150,000 in proceeds from the rodeo have benefited local charities,” White said. “Civitans live up to their motto ‘Builders of Good Citizenship’ by helping the physically and mentally handicapped, as well as providing youth scholarships.”
Children’s activities include a search for money in the Gold Rush for ages 3–8 and a Calf Scramble for ages 9–12. Spacewalk inflatables will entertain kids in the play area. Concessions will be available.
Advanced tickets for children and senior adults age 60 and older are $5 advance and $6 at the door.
Children 5 years and younger are admitted free. Advanced adult tickets are $10 and $12 at the gate. All seats are first come, first serve.
There will be no reserved seating.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Covington County Bank, Superior Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and Touch of Country.
