The Andalusia City Council agreed in a special called meeting Wednesday to secure $1 million in temporary financing for the expansion of the Vector Aerospace facility.
Mayor Earl Johnson said there are a number of reasons construction needs to begin. First, he said, the cost of steel is rising and the metal components need to be purchased. Secondly, he said, Vector has projects lined up that will require more space.
“This expansion is expected to make a significant impact on Andalusia,” he said.
The council agreed to finance a third of the estimated $3 million project for 60 days.
Long term, the project is being financed with a bond issue from the recently-appointed Covington County Industrial Development Authority.
The City of Andalusia will oversee construction of the expansion.
