Businesses can turn in bad checks Thursday

Opp merchants in possession of bad checks will have an opportunity to turn them in for collection without having to leave town, District Attorney Walt Merrell said

“The DA’s office serves the county as a whole, and we recognize that ‘mom and pop’ merchants may have to close down shop to make a trip to Andalusia to turn in bad checks,” Merrell said. “It’s just not feasible.”

Opp merchants are asked to bring the bad checks to the city’s municipal courtroom Thursday between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

A similar event held last week in Florala drew 10 merchants, Merrell said.

“Our plan is to do this once a month for half a day in Florala and half a day in Opp,” he said. “I truly believe that had we not had this event, and the others like it, those checks wouldn’t be turned in, so this is a great service for area merchants.”
