When Glen and Chris Greathouse opened the retail side of Greathouse Floors four years ago, they never dreamed the business would take off like it has.

Now, they are moving to a 2,000 square-foot larger facility to accommodate their expanding business.

“Our new store will have a bigger showroom and warehouse,” Glen Greathouse said. “It will allow us to offer more merchandise than ever before.”

Greathouse said the store will add granite countertops, plantation shutters and blinds, in addition to the carpet, tile and Pittsburg brand paints the store already offers.

Additionally, Greathouse said the entrance to the store should have easier access than the store’s current Hwy. 29 location.

“The traffic is slower on South Three Notch Street,” he said. “It is easier to get in and out of.”

Greathouse said he had wanted to expand the business. When the opportunity arose to get the old Goodson Auto Parts store beside City Drugs, he jumped at it.

When asked how the economic downturn affected his business, Greathouse said, “it comes and goes.”

Still, Greathouse opened another retail location in Evergreen a little more than a year ago.

“We’re handling more and more,” he said. “It has changed so much since 2007. It’s bigger than what I thought. I figured it would take a little longer to grow this much.”

Additionally, they have expanded from one employee to eight full time employees plus contractors.

Greathouse said the Greathouse name has been around for decades, as his father, Pat, operated a floor finishing and refinishing business, which then expanded to the storefront.

The new store is scheduled to open May 2.
