No excuse for not recycling

Consider these statistics.

In the 2010 calendar year, Andalusia residents recycled 2,000 tons of goods through the city’s recycling program.

That’s 2,000 tons of goods that won’t go into a landfill, and, better still, will be reused in place of raw materials, of which there are a finite number on earth.

And here’s the kicker: Only 35 to 40 percent of Andalusia’s residents recycle. If we could raise our average to a “B” – and get 80 percent participating, that could keep 4,000 tons, or 8 million pounds of refuse, out of the landfill.

The process for participating is simple. One only has to place a call to the recycling center, 222-0862. A green bag will be delivered to your home. Then, place your recyclables in the green bag, and put the green bag out with your hobo. Recycling crews will pick up the goods and leave you a new bag for the new week.

The city accepts aluminum, metal, newspapers, office paper and plastic.

There is absolutely no excuse for not participating if you live within the city. With just a small amount of effort, you can make a huge impact on the earth.
