Covington County Probate Judge Ben Bowden told the county commission Monday his office’s 2010 year was “busy and productive.”
“My long term goal is if you can do it in person at the tag line, you should be able to do it online,” Bowden said, speaking of activities handled by clerks in the probate office such as purchasing tags and title work. “Right now, you can purchase renewals online, and that has really taken off.”
Bowden said he also hopes to convert index books, which outline how to find property records at the courthouse, to an electronic format.
Bowden also informed commissioners that during the last calendar year, his office has issued 362 marriage licenses and handled 119 estates, 34 adoptions, 92 mental commitments and 31 guardianships/conservatorships.
