A convicted sex offender from Florala is now facing a new set of sex char-ges.

Co-vington Co-unty Jail repo-rts indicate Christopher Dave Hughes, 32, was arrested Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse.

Details on Hughes’ alleged victim or the circumstances surrounding the case were not immediately available; however, the Alabama Department of Public Safety community information center’s website states Hughes, a resident of Creech Road, was convicted in 2003 of the second-degree rape of a 15-year-old female.

He was sent to prison and released Jan. 6, 2009, and he is currently compliant with the state’s mandated sex offender registration law, the website states.

Hughes has since been booked into the county jail on the new charges and is currently being held on a $40,000 bond.
