The City of Opp will send a representative to Montgomery to fight to keep Frank Jackson State Park open.

Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said that while he won’t be able to make the trip, he’s sending city planner Don Childre.

“The city certainly hopes the lake stays open,” he said. “We have a lot of people from out of town who utilize the facility. It is a tremendous asset economically to our city.

Edgar said the city has a lot to be proud of in the lake facilities.

“We have one of the nicest and most modern lakes in the state,” he said. “And it’s one of the few self-supporting lakes in the state.”

Frank Jackson State Park is the only park in the state that has TV cable hookups at each of the 32 RV camping sites, and has Wi-Fi Internet access at all camp sites.

Frank Jackson State park typically stays booked the majority of the year, is booked now through Memorial Day, a spokesman said Tuesday.
