Gas drops for holiday weekend

Covington County motorists are feeling a little bit of relief at the pump for Memorial Day travels.
The average price of gasoline dropped between 16 and 10 cents throughout the county, with the exception of Florala, where gas dropped a penny, according to AAA.
In Andalusia, the average price is $3.53 per gallon; it’s $3.61 in Opp; $3.56 in River Falls and $3.82 in Florala.
In Alabama, the average is $3.61 per gallon and nationally, the average is $3.81.
This is the third straight week that gas prices have decreased, following a trend seen as the barrel of oil price eased off of a yearly high of $113 a few weeks ago.
Even with the decline, prices are nearly $1 more than the Memorial Day weekend in 2010, when gas prices averaged around $2.60 per gallon.
The average price for 15 gallons of fuel is $53.09, compared to $38.94 last year.
Despite higher gas prices, a recent AAA survey found that 35 million Americans plan to travel this holiday.
Even with the decreases in prices, crude oil prices moved higher Friday prior to the holiday weekend.
July delivery of crude oil added 64 cents to $100.87 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
