An Opp juvenile who escaped from a group home in Troy is now facing theft of property charges.

Opp Police Department Invest-igator Walt Inabinett said the department was notified Wedne-sday that the girl had escaped from the group home, and was possibly in Opp.

“We searched for her (Wednesday) night and searched for her (Thursday) morning,” he said.

Inabinett said on Thursday, they were notified that a 2002 Mazda car had been stolen from the Opp Head Start off Brown Street.

During that time Thursday morning, Inabinett said officers were tipped that there was a female in the area fitting her description.

“We received info where the escapee was,” he said. “She then eluded officers on a short foot chase.”

Inabinett said when OPD officers apprehended the girl, they found that she “was the person who was in possession of the stolen vehicle.”

Officers located the vehicle off of David Lane in a wooded area, he said.

Inabinett said the juvenile is being charged with first-degree theft of property, and has been turned over to Alabama Youth Services.
