An Andalusia man is in jail after he allegedly assaulted a Troy man and tampered with the crime scene.

Sgt. Jason Curry with the Andalusia Police Department said police responded to what they thought was a traffic accident on Prest-wood Bridge Road at approximately 3:15 a.m. Wednesday; however, officers quickly discovered it was not.

“A motorist spotted the vehicle and called 911 when they witnessed the victim inside the truck and thought a traffic accident had occurred,” Curry said. “EMS responded and transported him to the local hospital, but due to the extent of his injuries, he was then transported to Southeast Medical Center in Dothan.”

Curry said an investigation into the incident revealed the victim had allegedly traveled to the home of Herbert Rogers, located just off Prestwood Bridge Road, where between 11:30 p.m. and 3:15 a.m., the two men were involved in a physical altercation.

“The investigation is still ongoing to determine how the victim came to be in his vehicle on Prestwood Bridge Road,” Curry said. “However, we have charged Mr. Rogers with second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence in the case.”

Rogers, 23, is currently being held in the Covington County Jail on $23,000 bond.
