An Opp man was airlifted to a Dothan hospital following a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning.

Emergency officials were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Old Perry Store Road and the Hwy. 331 Bypass around 10 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of a Dodge Ram 2500 Cargo van, later identified as Welton Timis Vaughn, 46, of Opp, clipped the trailer of an 18-wheeler driven by Jerod Robert McGuirk of Loganville, Ga.

Opp firefighters had to extract Vaughn from the van, and the southbound lanes of Hwy. 331 were closed for a brief amount of time to accommodate Life Flight.

Vaughn sustained leg injuries, but was alert and talking at the scene, and was airlifted to a Dothan hospital, officials said.

OPD officials said McGuirk, who sustained no injuries, was taken to the OPD for a breath test, which is standard protocol for all drivers with commercial drivers licenses.

No charges are being filed as a result of the accident.
