MARY MYERS SIRMON

Mary Myers Sirmon, 93, of McKenzie, died Sat., June 25, 2011.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sun., June 26, from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Rex Tolbert and Elder Stephen Tolbert officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana directing the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie W. ”Pete” Sirmon Sr.; parents, the Rev. C.G. and Mary Belle Davis Myers, and brothers, Enoch Myers and Austin Myers. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Nolen of McKenzie; sons, Jessie W. Sirmon Jr. and James D. Sirmon; sister: Ora Mae Thompkins, all of Andalusia; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM EUGENE ‘GENE’ TAYLOR

William Eugene “Gene” Taylor, 70, of Brantley, passed away Mon., June 27, 2011, in a Montgomery hospital.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Fri., July 1, 2011 at Dozier Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Brewer officiating. Visitation will be held Thurs., June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home in Andalusia. Keahey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Williams of Brantley; three sons and daughters-in-law,

Terry (Carla) Taylor of Missouri, William (Donna) Taylor of Missouri and Robert Taylor of Brantley; daughter, Jeanne (Eric) Compton of Brantley; brother, Donald Taylor of Opp; two sisters and brother-in-law, Cathleen (Lawrence) Chandler and Lottie Walker, both of Dozier; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Merle Clark.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Shirley, Wade Ballard, Greg Walker, Eric Compton, Michael Walker and Bobby Brooks.

LESTER CARLOS SMITHART

Lester Carlos Smithart, 75, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., June 25, 2011, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Tues., June 28, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Ganus officiating and special music provided by Good News Quartet. Keahey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Gunter Smithart of Andalusia; daughter, Thersa Bolin of Blakley, Ga.; brothers, Billy Smithart of Red Level, Jim Paul Smithart, Robert Smithart and Cecil Smithart; sister, Rachel Eddings, all of Andalusia; two grandchildren, Mary Ann Smithart and Jeremy Smithart; and four great-grandchildren.

MARY ELIZABETH CHAVERS GRANTT

Mary Elizabeth Chavers Gantt, 81, of Andalusia, died Sat., June 25, 2011, in the Andalusia Manor nursing facility.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Tues., June 28, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Stewart officiating, and burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Wayne Hartin and Bobbie and Don Ray of Andalusia; her grandchildren, Charlie and Brooke Hartin of Brewton, Sheri and Buddy Lott of Grand Bay and Amanda and Benji Farr of Dothan; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, L.H. and Lois Chavers of Albany, Ga.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the West Highland Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Benji Farr, Buddy Lott, Lamar Whittle, Glenn Gibson, Norman Barefoot and David Barton.
