A 20-year-old Andalusia man is facing criminal charges after he was caught allegedly “making out” with a 15-year-old girl outside of a local church.

Sgt. Jason Curry of the Andalusia Police Department said Joshua W. Ellzey was arrested and charged with second-degree sodomy after a city employee allegedly saw the couple kissing in the breezeway of the First United Methodist Church Monday.

“She thought it was two children who looked like they were kissing and making out and was concerned, so she reported it,” Curry said. “Turns out, he’s 20 and she’s 15. They considered themselves ‘boyfriend and girlfriend,’ but he had been repeatedly warned by her parents and by law enforcement to stay away from the girl.”

Ellzey was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $20,000 bond.
