An Opp man is behind bars and is facing burglary and theft charges after he allegedly stole items from a recycling business.

Opp Police Chief Nickey Carnley said on Wednesday OPD officers responded to a report of a burglary and theft at B&L Recycling located at 100 Jones Street.

Carnley said items taken during the crime were copper and an unknown amount of money.

“The investigation led to an apartment on Hardage Circle, where some of the reported stolen property was located within a parked car,” Carnley said.

Upon further investigation, Charles Jr. Townsend, 35, was arrested and charged with burglary third degree and theft of property third degree.

Townsend was transported to the Covington County Jail and held on a $13,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation by the OPD, Carnley said.
