Department of Transportation-recommended improvements to the site where three Baker, Fla., sisters lost their lives in June are now under way.
Tony Harris, Alabama Department of Transportation’s bureau chief of media and community relations, presented the state’s traffic study findings concerning the intersection of Ala. Hwy. 137 and County Road 4 in Wing last month.
Harris said Friday state transportation workers are installing a channelized island with reflective paint and markers at the eastbound approach to Ala. Hwy. 137. He said once that is completed, DOT workers will begin work on aligning the stop signs and installing a yield sign for those making a right turn from County Road 4.
He said the county has placed rumble strips across County Road 4.
The recommendations were presented at public meeting on June 29.
On June 14, a two-vehicle accident occurred when a car, traveling up County Road 4, ran a stop sign and T-boned another car traveling south on Ala. Hwy. 137.
