Help make World Series great

Andalusia is about two weeks away from an influx of 12 softball teams from across the USA, along with their coaches and families for the 2011 Babe Ruth 12U Softball World Series, and organizers could use a little help.

“It’s going to take a lot of people to make this event a success,” said Mark Ingram, volunteer coordinator. “We’re thinking anywhere between 100 to 125, and we want to remind people this is a countywide event. We welcome civic groups, churches, from Andalusia, Opp, Florala and all parts in between.”

Volunteers are needed for four and a half hour sessions, twice a day. At any given time, there will be a need for two volunteers in the concession stand, two for program sales and another two for ticket sales. There are also other areas where volunteers will be needed.

Organizers have been working for months to make sure our county shines during this event. It’s a great opportunity for our story as a small city that does things in a big way to be told across the United States. One never knows when that publicity will prompt someone to move here or locate a business here.

The World Series will be held Aug. 4-9. If you’ve got time to give, please contact Ingram by phone at 334-427-3330 or by email at mark.ingram@powersouth.com.
