LT. COL. (RET.) DALE CORWIN PANCAKE SR.

Lt Col. (Ret.) Dale Corwin Pancake Sr., 90, of Andalusia, formerly of Haddam, Kansas, died Tues. July 19, 2011, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., July 22, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Trent officiating and Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Interment will be in Haddam Cemetery in Kansas.

Lt. Col. Pancake was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with more than 28 years service to his country. He was preceded in death by his wives, Anne J. Pancake and Ruth Owens Pancake; son, Robert B. Pancake; stepdaughter, Cathy Witt; and sister, Irma Byrd.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline (Sue) and Kent Jacobsen of Plano, Texas; sons and daughter-in-laws, Dale C. and Helen Pancake Jr. of Andalusia and Tom and Dawn Owens of Richmond, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at Foreman’s.

In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

WILLIAM WAYNE SOWELL

William Wayne Sowell, 76, of Andalusia, died Tues., July 19, 2011, in the Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Fri., July 22, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Northrop officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and David Maddox of Clanton; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Tatiana Sowell of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Erin Davis, Logan Sowell, Haley Maddox, D. J. Maddox and Daria Sowell; and a great-grandchild, Hannah Lynch

He is preceded in death by his wife, Annette Sowell, and grandson, Shaun Lynch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Coy Williams, Tom Lamberth, Joe White, John Addison, Ottis Everette and Charlie Bolt.

ALICE DOWD PITTMAN

Mrs. Alice Dowd Pittman, 96, of LaFayette, died Sun., July 17, 2011, at East Alabama Medical Center.

Funeral services are planned for today, Thurs., July 21, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in LaFayette. Burial will follow at LaFayette City Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Texal) Powell of Andalusia and Sharon (Rick) Elliott of Lanett; one son, Buddy (Kathy) Pittman of Smith Station; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was born May 1, 1915, in Montgomery. She was a member of LaFayette First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Senior High Sunday School. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Ex POW Auxiliary. During World War II, she worked at the Anniston Army Ammunitions Depot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Harold Pittman; siblings, Bessie Perry, Clara Moody, Agnes Williford, Charles Dowd, Madeline Dowd and George Dowd; and granddaughter, Sarah Pittman.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Susan Theus, Scott Powell, Angie Miller Patricia Lauderdale, Alison Lamb, Elizabeth Keeble, Brooke Miles, Brantley Pittman and Brock Pittman.

Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Auxiliary.

A special thanks goes to Ann Avery, her friend and attendant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LaFayette First United Methodist Church General Fund.
