Police are searching for the person who shot through a Florala home Monday night, endangering the lives of the three people inside.

Chief Sonny Bedsole said the chain of events began shortly after 8 p.m. when a disturbance on Martin Luther King Jr. Street between two unidentified women turned into a physical confrontation.

“One allegedly knocked the other out,” Bedsole said. “That confrontation, we feel, bled over to a mobile home on McPhail Farm Road. That home was shot several times with people inside the house.”

Bedsole said the shooting occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m., and those inside “immediately got down on the floor when the shooting started.” He said there were no eyewitnesses to the event; however, a person of interest was soon picked up and questioned at length.

“We later determined that person was not the suspect who fired the shots, and they were released,” he said. “With that said, we’re obviously looking to find out who fired those shots. That person will be facing several felony charges, including three counts of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.”

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to contact the Florala Police Department at 334-858-3244 or the Covington County Sheriff’s Office at 334-427-2640.
