Opp City Schools will open bids on a new physical education facility at Opp High School in the coming weeks.
Sealed bids will be received at the Opp BOE Thurs., Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. and will be read aloud.
At the June 9 board meeting, Superintendent Michael Smithart asked board members for their blessings to engage an architect to see how much a building would cost.
Smithart said that since the school system was selling the gym and another portion of South Highlands Elementary School that it would limit “some of the physical education facilities.”
Smithart said that the officials hope to build a metal facility that is 80 feet by 120 feet.
Initial thoughts are to put a spot for cheerleaders and dance, and then have a large area for students to use in their physical education classes, he said.
Smithart said the system has approximately $150,000 in Qualified School Construction Bonds funds to utilize for the project.
