A South Carolina man was jailed Sunday on two counts of domestic violence after he allegedly struck a 2-year-old child in the face.

Chief Deputy David Anderson of the Covington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched Sunday to the side of U.S. Hwy. 331 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

“Apparently it was verbal altercation that turned physical between a Dominique Antwone Thompson of Anderson, S.C., and an unidentified female,” said Anderson.

“Allegedly, Mr. Thompson struck a child that was sitting in the female’s lap,” he said. The man is charged with two counts of domestic violence and was held on a $3,000 bond.

Anderson said the group was traveling back from Florida to South Carolina when the incident occurred.
