Yard sale to fund spay/neuter

Plans are under way to hold a yard sale Saturday to benefit the Andalusia Area Human Society’s feral cat spay/neuter program.

Organizer Lynn Bush said the first yard sale, which was held in Febrary, raised enough funds to treat 50 cats with rabies vaccines and to spay or neuter them.

“We thought since the first event was so successful, we’d try another,” Bush said. “And since this is Pet Appreciation Week, we thought the timing would be perfect.”

Bush said donations – both in the form of yard sale item and monetary donations – are needed to make the event a sucess.

“We had such great community support with the first,” she said. “But what we need is continual support for this important program.”

The yard sale will be held in the Tractor Supply parking lot Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. Large and small item donations are needed. Free pickup is available.

“Remember, these donations are tax-deductible,” she said. “What we’d really like to see is furniture donations, as well as small household items.”

Bush said volunteers for the sale are also needed.

To volunteer or donate, contact Bush at 205-410-7659 or Miranda Diel at 334-804-7539. Individual monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 1671, Andalusia AL 36420.

This will be the second yard sale fundraiser for the group.

“We can’t keep going with just fundraisers had in the past,” Bush said. “It’s so important to help these animals.”
