A local business will be celebrating animals on Saturday.
Tractor Supply Company will hold a pet appreciation day, aptly called “PAWS,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Andalusia store.
Miranda Diel, who works at Tractor Supply Company and is active in the area Humane Society, said there will be an array of things for residents and their pets to do.
“There will be animals available for adoption through Boomerang Animal Rescue and Paws and Claws Inc,” she said. “If you’ve been looking for a dog, cat, kitten or puppy, come see what we have available.”
Diel said Saturday’s event is a companywide event, but locally stores are responsible for their own events.
“It’s actually Tractor Supply’s biggest event ever,” she said. “We took their suggestion list to the Chamber of Commerce, and we went from there.”
Diel said the store will be giving away a one-year supply of pet food, as well.
“I think Tractor Supply is doing it to promote pet appreciation and how much pride we take in selling our product,” she said.
Additionally, Dr. Bob Bush, a local veterinarian, will be available to give rabies vaccinations for $10.
Microchipping and dog grooming will also be available for those who bring their leashed pets to the event.
For the kids, there will be coloring and face painting, she said. Hot dogs and cotton candy will be available from Forever Reins.
Covington County’s 4-H will also sponsor a community dog show from 11 a.m. until noon.
It is open to residents of all ages and dogs of any breed, or mixed breeds.
Entry to the contest is a donation to the 4-H program. Entry forms may be picked up at the Extension office or at Tractor Supply Company.
“We will have dog agility demos with Australian Shepards and working dog demos courtesy of the Andalusia K-9 unit,” Diel said. “Come have some fun with us this Saturday.”
