Ballet fundraisers offer tickets, travel

What do football, a 5K, and a beach giveaway have in common?
All are part of the Andalusia Ballet Association’s fundraising efforts this Saturday.
The ballet’s 16th annual auction will open its 29th year of dance, and organizers are excited about a number of items that have been contributed to the auction.
Chairperson Gina Kerr said she thinks a package that includes a limited edition, signed and numbered Stephen Malkoff print of “The Historic Trees of Toomers Corner,” a Gene Chizik autographed football and two Auburn tickets will be a big hit.
For ‘Bama fans, there will be a chance to bid on a Nick Saban autographed football and two Alabama tickets.
“We also have a piece of custom, fine jewelry from Christopher’s, some Vicki Popwell packages, beach trips, spa packages, a golf package, and a John Harbuck custom-made knife,” Kerr said.
In addition, there are a number of items available in a silent auction, including original art work, food packages, and a year’s worth of teeth whitening.
One of the most popular items, Kerr said, is a year’s worth of unlimited dance classes.
The fun begins with a silent auction and buffet at 6. The theme for this year’s event is Cabaret, and Marcus Alford of Atlanta is in Andalusia this week choreographing a performance for the event.
Tickets are $75 per couple.
Beach raffle
Members of the Andalusia Ballet Board also are selling chances on a weeklong beach getaway at 5 Palms Beach House. The house is a five bedroom, four bath that sleeps 18, and has a private pool and hot tub. A $10 donation gets the donor a chance at the vacation; the drawing will be held during Saturday night’s event.
5K run/walk
Billed as the “hottest run in town,” the 5K run/walk begins at 9 a.m. at the historic Church Street School, which will soon become the home of the ballet.
The 3.1-mile competitive, timed run or non-competitive non-timed fitness walk is for interested runners and walkers ages 9 and up. Thirty-eight have registered to participate.
The entry fee is $25, and registration continues at the ballet office, and on site Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.. The fee includes a T-shirt, and registration forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce, Ansley Place, Andalusia Dental Group, Massey Automotive, Quality Tire, Andalusia Regional Hospital, Andalusia Health & Fitness and Andalusia Ballet. Forms can also be printed from the ballet’s website at www.andalusiaballet.com.
