Covenant breaks ground on new facility

Covenant Baptist Church broke ground Sun., Aug. 7, on its new multi-purpose facility, located at 20552 U.S. Hwy. 84 at the corner of Leon Wiggins Road. The church is located one mile east of the airport in Sanford. The congregation is currently meeting at 27761 Straughn School Road.

The 8000-sq.-ft. facility will include a fellowship hall/worship center with Sunday school rooms, nursery, library, kitchen and rest rooms. True South Construction is the contractor with Moody Contracting doing the grading and paving. MSQUARED DESIGN + BUILD, a Texas firm, is providing the architectural plans.

Leading the groundbreaking is Richard Jackson, chairman of the building committee; Tommy Green, pastor; and Eddie Edson, chairman of deacons.

Covenant Baptist is a Southern Baptist congregation affiliated with the Alabama Baptist and Southern Baptist Conventions.

Covenant Baptist Church has as its objective to be a dynamic spiritual body empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Christ, to teach, baptize, and disciple as many people as possible in the church, community and throughout the world. Covenant Baptist Church is a worshiping fellowship, experiencing an awareness of God, recognizing His person, and responding in obedience to His leadership.

Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m. The church currently meets in homes for Wednesday night prayer service at 7. The location of prayer meeting is announced each Sunday. A nursery is provided.
