City declares 10 properties nuisances

In its continuing quest to clean up unsightly areas of Andalusia, the Andalusia City Council declared 10 parcels public nuisances and authorized abatement proceedings against them.

• Church Street – Old Coca-Cola Plant

• 1509 1st Ave. Green Acres

• 1028 S. Cotton

• 308 Donald St.

• 304 Cawthon St.

• 214 Barton St.

• 212 Barton St.

• 200 Scherf Dr.

• 213 Allen Ave.

Earlier this month, the council agreed to stop sending 30-day courtesy letters to repeat offenders on abatement issues. Instead, the council will approve abatement proceedings to begin immediately.

Jim Locklier, abatement officer for the city of Andalusia, said city residents who wish to report overgrown and problem areas, or unsafe dwellings, should call him at 428-1143.
