Workout class centers around faith

Local women looking for a workout routine with a Christian twist can look no further than the Faithful Workouts, an exercise class sponsored by the First Baptist Church for women communitywide.

“We are having exercise classes two mornings a week,” said Kim Hopkins, workout leader. “It’s a general, cardio and strengthening workout.”

Hopkins said ladies who participate will do so to the tune of “the uplifting dynamics of Christian music.”

The idea came from a workout the church had done previously, Hopkins said.

“We had actually done the Christian workout several years ago,” she said. “And it had gone well, but our time schedules changed and we stopped doing it.”

Hopkins said demand by local residents prompted church members to begin a new class.

“Kathy Harry (a church member) started talking about it six months ago,” she said. “We just went with it from there.”

Hopkins said the free classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:55 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the FBC youth building.
