Contemporary Christian fans looking for something to do Saturday night should look no further than the Truth 40th anniversary tour concert.

The concert will be held at Southside Baptist Church’s family life center.

Music Minister Ron Patterson said the group traveled together from 1971-2003, and was one of the first contemporary Christian groups.

“Their music is what a lot of our churches grew up with,” he said. “In the 70s and 80s, almost all of the youth choir music was Truth music.”

Patterson said Roger Breland, a former choral director at Opp High School, founded the group in 1971.

TRUTH is an acronym for Trust, Receive, Unchangeable, True, Happiness in Jesus.

Truth is famous for songs such as “Jesus Never Fails,” “There is a Hope” and “The Church Triumphant.”

Before its final concert in June 2002, the 21-member cast of musicians and technicians had performed nearly 10,000 concerts and recorded some 50 albums.

Saturday night marks the first concert of the nearly 40 performances in this special anniversary tour, which will continue in Alpharetta, Ga., Dunwoody, Ga., and Bartlett, Tenn.

There is seating available for 500, Patterson said.

“This is probably the only opportunity that we’ll have to see the group again in its 40th anniversary tour,” he said.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
