Hundreds of people are in Andalusia this weekend attending this year’s Southeast Brangus Breeders Association meeting at the Covington Center Arena.

The group boasts 200 members from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Texas and all states in between.

President Sean Parker said this is the first time in three years the group has been in Andalusia. Previously, the event was held in conjunction with the Georgia Beef Expo.

Parker said when negotiations yielded a better price for the group, the decision was made to return to Andalusia.

“We love the facility here,” Parker said. “When the stalls and pens and the new improvements, this is a great place to hold our event.”

On Thursday, junior members were busy showing their specimens, which are a cross between a Brahama and an Angus. The animals tolerate the hot climate while providing a quality meat, Parker said.

Ali Cogdon of Conecuh County took home a win for the grand champion bull.

Today, the group will sell 55 head at noon to the highest bidder.

Admission to the event is free.
