BERTHA BARNES BOYETTE

Bertha Barnes Boyette, 80, of Andalusia, died Fri., Sept. 9, 2011, in a local nursing facility.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Mon., Sept. 12, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Barnes and the Rev. Dennis Knowles officiating. Interment will follow at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Foreman’s.

Mrs. Boyette was preceded in death by husbands, James Barnes and Carl Boyette; and a son, Gary Barnes.

She is survived by three sons, William L. Barnes of Andalusia, Roy D. Barnes of the Heath Community and Kent D. (Vickie) Barnes of Loango; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lilly Mae Barnes of Andalusia and Merle Tanner of Opp; brother, Lonnie Scott of Ozark; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell Barnes, David Barnes, Luke Barnes, Doug Barnes, Dusty Barnes and Chris Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua, William and Bryan Barnes.

IRA RICHARD DENNIS

Ira Richard Dennis, 31, of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., Sept. 8, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Keahey Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Lowery Dennis of Onyca; mother, Mary Weaver of Power Springs, Ga.; two sons, Dillian Dennis and Triston Blain Nicholson of Rome, Ga.; one brother, Raymond Dennis of Andalusia; and one sister, Teresa Emry of Houma, La.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Irwin Dennis.

Lonnie Henderson passed away Wed., Sept. 7, 2011, in a hospice care facility in Tampa, Fla.

STEVEN TRUETT MADDOX

Steven Truett Maddox, 52, of Pinson, passed away on Aug. 26, 2011.

He was a loving father and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, Steven Chadwick Maddox (Carly) and Lauren Maddox; parents, Truett Maddox (Jean) and Sara Barganier; brothers and sisters, Lynn Maddox Purvis (Wendell), David Wayne Maddox (Sondra), Chuck Maddox (Kim) and Beverly Wyatt (Tim); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wed., Aug. 31, beginning at noon at Northpark Baptist Church with church services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill Wilks officiating and burial following in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East with Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.

Pallbearers were Steven Chadwick Maddox, Randy “Smokey” Christian, Tommy Street, Sammy Rushing, Charlie Higgins, Big Tim and Chip Prevett.

GLADYS AUDREY FINDLEY BLACKMON

Gladys Audrey Findley Blackmon passed into eternal life on Sept. 8, 2011, and was joyously greeted in heaven by her husband of 58 years William B. Blackmon; her son, William B. Blackmon Jr.; parents, Henry and Ollie Findley; sisters, Eunice, Louise, Marjorie and Ollie Mae; and brother, Herman.

Visitation will be held tonight night 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel in Brewton.

Funeral services will be held Sun., Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff and the Rev. Bill Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in Beulah Cemetery in Brewton, Alabama with Williams Memorial Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by her daughters, Billie Jo (Rex) Butler of Andalusia, who loved and cared for her in her final days, and Judy Wilder of Brewton; daughter-in-law, Jacalyn Blackmon of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Allen Butler and Rexanne Butler of Andalusia, Ricky Fuqua of Brewton and Michael (Julie) Loux and Katie (Clay) Ingram, all of Birmingham; sister- Mabel Brantley of Brewton; brother, Albert Findley of Lillian; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Wayland Colvin, Albert Cravey, Buster Chavers, Jack Carden, Jack Shiver and Pat Henagan.

She was born July 27, 1920, the sixth of eight children, in the Brooklyn Community. She moved to Brewton as a young girl and graduated from W.S. Neal High School in 1938, earning the Distinguished Young Women Award. She married William B. Blackmon on Nov. 11, 1939, and when he became disabled in 1969, she loved and cared for him with grace and compassion until his passing in Feb. 1998.

Her philosophy was that one should always count one’s blessings and that there was always someone worse off. She took great pleasure in visiting and cooking for anyone in need. She and her sister, Mabel, were often seen on their errands of good will.

She will be remembered for her devotion to God, community and her family; her keen sense of humor and her selfless acts of kindness. She touched many lives and will live in our hearts forever.
