A Samson man was jailed Monday after he falsely reported that he was the victim of an attempted robbery.
Sunday evening, Opp Police officers responded to an attempted robbery on U.S. Hwy 84 between Substation Road and U.S. Highway 331 South.
Opp Police Chief Nickey Carnley said that during the investigation, Michael H. Boroff, 26, told authorities that he stopped to assist a female whose vehicle was broken down on the side of the roadway, with a small child.
Carnley said Boroff told investigators that while he was assisting the female with her vehicle, a male subject struck him in the legs, causing him to fall. While he was on the ground, he said the man attempted to take his personal belongings.
Boroff reported that nothing was taken from his possession during the attempted robbery.
Carnley said, during a follow-up interview on Monday, Boroff confessed the attempted robbery never happened.
Boroff was arrested and charged with false reporting to law enforcement authority.
