Area fathers and families are urged to be “Courageous” and head out to the Clark Theaters next weekend, said Dr. Fred Karthaus of Andalusia’s First Baptist Church.

“There’s a great message waiting there,” Karthaus said. “The theater has agreed to a showing of ‘Courageous,’ a family- friendly movie that challenges families and specifically fathers to live courageously for Christ.”

The movie, which is the fourth produced by Sherwood Church, follows the likes of Facing the Giants and Fireproof. It tells the story of four fathers in law enforcement who, after going through a terrible tragedy, begin looking at their roles as fathers, and ultimately begin challenging one another to fulfill God’s intention for fathers.

Karthaus said a rally is planned for Sunday at 6 p.m. on the Court Square. The movie will open the weekend of Sept. 30.

“There will be several local leaders who will share testimonies concerning the importance of Christian families, Christian fathers and living faithfully for the Lord,” he said. “We are encouraging all Christians to join us for this rally and to support the opening weekend of the movie.”

Karthaus said the movie will show this weekend and next. Many local churches are purchasing blocks of tickets and viewing the film together, he said. Shows are expected at 7 p.m. with tickets at $7 each.

“We are hoping that this film will challenge us to be more faithful in our Christian lives,” he said. “In response to the movie, FBC will be offering a four-week Bible study that explores many of the themes addressed in the movie. There are also plans for men to form small accountability groups that can help them to live faithful lives as Christians.”
