Emergency personnel work to secure wreck victim Amy Cowan to a backboard for treatment Friday afternoon.

An Andalusia woman and her toddler daughter escaped serious injury Friday when their SUV flipped and hit a telephone pole.

Sheriff Dennis Meeks said Amy Cowan, who was driving a Chevrolet Blazer, was traveling on Page Road around 3 p.m. when the accident occurred.

“Best we can figure she was headed to pick up her son from school when she ran off the road, overcorrected, flipped and struck the pole,” Meeks said. “She was banged up pretty good, but her daughter was absolutely fine.”

Meeks said the child was restrained properly in a car seat and did not suffer any injuries.

Cowan and her daughter were removed from the vehicle by members of the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department and Advanced EMS.

Cowan was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital for treatment.
