Nearly 40 veterans and guardians will take part in this weekend’s Covington Region Honor Flight, and organizers are asking the community to come out and support the event.

Those attending will leave Andalusia Oct. 1 at 3:15 a.m. from the First Baptist Church parking lot.

“We ask people if they can to come and help us send these veterans off and bring them back home,” board member Greg White said.

The veterans will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for the day and visit sites such as the World War II memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Vietnam and Korean memorials.

The group is expected to arrive back in Andalusia shortly after midnight.
