Love yoga? Bring your mat

The public is invited to ‘A Time for Yoga: A Global Community Yoga Practice,’ tonight at 7 p in the Church Street Cultural Arts Centre. This free yoga class is open to those who have never practiced yoga as well as students at all levels. It is a one-hour class followed by relaxation and a 15-minute meditation for universal peace and wellbeing. Those attending should enter at the front of the building, and bring a pillow or blanket for meditation and a yoga mat if they have one. The event is free, but donations to benefit Church Street Cultural Arts Centre are welcomed.For those who are feeling stressed or need to improve strength, stamina and balance, LBW Com-munity College is offering a six-week yoga class on the Andalusia campus beginning the week of Oct. 3.

Taught by Nancy Blackmon, certified yoga instructor, the community education course is designed for beginners and intermediate students. Learn yoga poses and techniques in breathing and relaxation to help reduce stress, while improving flexibility, balance and posture. “More and more people are beginning to enjoy this type of exercise,” said Wayne Godwin, LBWCC’s Andalusia campus continuing education coordinator. “We are pleased to be able to continue offering this class on a six-week basis.”

Students can choose between an evening program on Mondays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 3, or morning program on Thursdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m., beginning Oct. 6. Each program costs $30 and covers all six classes.
