The Opp Housing Authority is still without a director, but officials hope to begin their search in the coming weeks.

Acting executive director Charles Willis said he plans to place the job announcement in local media sources soon.

“We hope to do something in the near future,” he said Thursday.

The housing authority received a voluntary resignation from its executive director, Janie Weeks late last month.

In July, the housing authority placed Weeks on paid administrative leave until legal issues were settled.

Though the board would not go into the details surrounding Weeks’ leave, residents of the housing authority cited different instances, and at least two residents threatened to file suit against either the housing authority or HUD alleging wrongdoing by Weeks.

Willis said several applications have already been submitted since it was anticipated that the position would be vacated.

Willis said previously the board would use the HUD suggested job description to find a suitable director.
