Boy Scouts to honor Sister Schubert tonight

The Alabama –Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America will honor Patricia “Sister Schubert” Barnes tonight as the 2011 Golden Eagle Dinner honoree.

The Golden Eagle Dinner is a fundraiser, set for Oakw-ood Lodge.

Walt Merrell, district attorney, is serving as dinner chairman.

“I like the Boy Scouts because studies show that a large majority of the people who participate in Boy Scouts say that the experience helped them in their lives and to set goals for their futures,” Merrell said.

Barnes, who is famous for her Parker House rolls sold under the “Sister Schubert’s” brand, has undertaken many philanthropic works, most notably to develop an orphanage in the Ukraine, Sasha’s Home, which opened in 2009.

Proceeds of her second cookbook, “Cast Your Brea Upon the Waters,” were designated for Sasha’s Home.
