An elderly Opp man was injured late Tuesday after he was apparently run over by a backhoe.

The victim, who is believed to be 80-year-old Willie C. Williamson, was injured when the backhoe operator backed over him while working at a site off U.S. Hey. 331 North near Sweet Home Baptist Church.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said Williamson was transported by Opportunity EMS to Mizell Memorial Hospital with severe injures and later airlifted to an unknown hospital.
