Four men were arrested in Opp Tuesday in what was described the “most prolific clandestine meth lab” seen in recent memory.

Drug Task Force agents and the county’s Incident Response Team executed a search warrant at the Wallace Street home and discovered more than 500 grams of meth oil, plus finished meth product, an ephe-drine separation, numerous syringes and smoking devices, acetone, lighter fluid, hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals used to manufacture meth.

“It was the whole nine yards,” said DTF Commander Mark Odom of the home’s contents. “Back in the early and mid 2000s, we worked labs like this on a regular basis, but once the new psuedoephedrine law took effect, these larger, red phosphorus labs became scarce.

“I am very pleased to put this one out of business,” he said.

Agents arrested Burnes Troy Grayson, 44 of Opp; Troy Heath Grayson, 25 of Opp; Christopher Earl Blue, 42 of Elba; and Timothy Wayne Grayson, 41, also of Opp. Each was charged with first-degree manufacturing a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and held on a $790,000 bond.

The exact family relationship between those arrested was not immediately known.

“This is a big bust – a lot of people had been cooking meth in this home, but because of law enforcement efforts, none of this meth ever hit the street,” said DTF prosecutor Emmett Massey. “Covington County is fortunate to have such a dedicated Drug Task Force and skilled Incident Response Team.”
