FHS boys gets 1st win, beats SHS

Florala earned its first win of the season Friday night with a 51-46 victory over Straughn in Wildcats territory.

“I was just proud of my guys,” FHS head boys basketball coach Daniel Allison said. “They (the Wildcats) got us to an 18-point game.”

FHS led 38-24 at half time, Straughn bounced back in the second half and the Wildcats held on late to get the win.

“I was proud of the way my men played the second half,” SHS head boys basketball coach Rusty Andrews said. “They dug such a big hole (in the first half). It was too big.”

Erik Vega led all Florala scorers with 14 points, and John Bess wasn’t far behind with 13. Desmond Smiley added six points, and Austin McNeill had five points.

Straughn’s JD Driver led the Tigers with 28 points.

To seal the win, Florala’s Colt Jackson, who had five points, nailed two free throws for the Wildcats.

In B-team action, the Tigers won 42-29. Rollin Kinsaul had 15 points.

Straughn’s Lady Tigers beat Florala 63-45 to remain undefeated this season.

The Lady Tigers (7-0) were led by Brittany Driver with 20 points, and Katelyn Kinsaul chipped in 13.

Florala’s Paige Irwin had 22 points.
