Luverne’s Wesley Persons Jr. had 21 points and Quindarius Thagard had 18 points to help lead the Tigers to a 68-56 victory over Andalusia in Luverne on Tuesday night.

“We played poorly and didn’t execute,” AHS head boys basketball coach Richard Robertson said. “They (Luverne) played well. We broke down and made our shots and executed our play when we had opportunities.”

The Bulldogs trailed by 20, and bounced back to within eight points in the loss.

“To be truthful, we didn’t show up ready to play,” Robertson said.

D’Anthony Rutledge chipped in 12 points for Luverne.

Andalusia’s Sam Byrd led the Bulldogs with 16 points; Niguel Jones and Jacard Townsend added 12 points each; and Lakelyus “Fathead” Adams had eight points.

Andalusia trailed 36-24 at half time, and was outscored 16-14 in the third period.

The Bulldogs (6-3) then went on to outscore the Tigers 17-16 in the fourth period.

In girls action, the Lady Bulldogs won 58-32, and in B-team action, Andalusia won 41-33.

Andalusia will begin its 45th annual invitational basketball tournament tomorrow night, and the Bulldogs will play Florala at 7:30. Luverne (4-0) plays Elba at 4:30.
