Opp’s girls and boys varsity basketball teams split in regular season action on Thursday night at home.

The Lady Bobcats beat Daleville’s Lady Warhawks 61-28, while Daleville’s boys team went on to claim a 66-46 victory over Opp’s boys.

Nisha Stoudemire led all Lady Bobcats with 16 points; and Laiken Free and Asia Edwards had 12 points each.

OHS head girls basketball coach Allison Gregory said right now the focus is getting better every day.

“Right now, it’s a constant battle for consistency,” Gregory said. “We came out playing hard and playing aggressive.”

The Lady Bobcats led 32-8 at half time, and outscored the Lady Warhawks 29-20 in the second half.

“I’ve got a great group of girls,” Gregory said. “They work hard, but right now, we’re trying to find one player to step it up and take control of the game.”

The Lady Bobcats improve to 4-3 on the season, and will have to wait until Jan. 3 for their next game, unless they can participate in a tournament somewhere.

OHS trailed 16-8 after the first period, was down by 20 in the second period and cut it to 29-22 at half time

“We kind of had a repeat of the other night (in Elba) and came out flat and missed easy shots,” OHS head boys basketball coach Ronnie Sansom said about the second half.

Daleville led 52-32 at the end of the third period.

Opp’s Zyki Wade had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Trent Finedore and Tyler Ferguson had eight points each.

Daleville also won in B-team action, 26-23.

The Bobcats will play next in Red Level’s annual invitational Christmas tournament next week.
