Red Level’s KJ Lawrence scored 23 points and went on to help lead the Tigers to a 81-55 win over Florala on Friday night at RLS.
The Tigers led 19-2 after the first period, and outscored the Wildcats 21-7 in the second period to lead 40-9 at the break.
“We had a good game all around. We had a good defensive effort (Friday night),” RLS boys basketball coach Allen Catrett said. “We forced a lot of turnovers, and coming into the ball game, we knew how good of a shooting team they are.”
Catrett said the key to stop the Wildcats’ shooting was getting hands in their face.
“We definitely shut it down in the fourth period,” he said.
The Tigers led 53-26 at the end of the third period, and still came out with the win even though they were outscored 29-28 in the final period of the contest.
Red Level’s Tim Sims also finished in double figures with 10 points. Troy Nolen had nine points; Dee Tolbert had eight points; James Feagin had seven points, five steals, nine rebounds and four blocks; and Raheem Bullock had six points.
Off the bench, Spencer Stallworth led the Tigers with seven points; William Crawford had three points; and Justin Maddox had four points for Red Level.
RLS improves to 7-6 overall this season, and will play next in its 14th annual invitational Christmas tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against St. Luke’s.
