The game was over before it ever began.
Andalusia won its fourth straight Red Level invitational Christmas tournament on Friday with a 58-28 rout over Luverne.
“It was a good tournament for these senior girls,” AHS girls coach Bennie Shellhouse said. “Luverne is much-improved.”
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 13-2 with the win, and will pick up on Jan. 3 with their first area contest against rival Straughn.
Andalusia led 21-7 after the first period, and outscored the Lady Tigers 17-4 in the second period to lead 38-11 at half time.
Throughout the first half and the tournament itself, AHS utilized its quick transition game and powerful inside game to maximize earned points.
Tournament MVP Alexis Horton led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. Shi’Amber Townsend had 11 points, and Alison Daniels added nine points.
The Lady Bulldogs increased their lead to 35 points in the second half with 4:35 left in the third period.
After that, the Lady Bulldogs’ second and third string came in and took care of the rest, while giving the starters a rest.
The fourth period was even at 7-7.
Shellhouse complimented the seniors’ play during the tournament, noting how well Tyleshia Malcolm, Townsend and Daniels controlled the boards.
