Straughn played tight with Brantley Friday night in the consolation game, but the Bulldogs held on late to claim a 55-50 win over the Tigers at the 14th annual Red Level Invitational basketball Christmas tournament.

The Tigers held a 20-6 lead in the first period, but the Bulldogs went on a 16-0 run in the first half to bring the game even at 20-0.

Both teams went back and forth on different possessions, but the Bulldogs held a 27-23 lead at half time.

With this loss, the Tigers fall to 4-7 on the season. Straughn’s next game will be on Jan. 3 against rival Andalusia to begin area play.

SHS trailed 33-28 in the third period, but an Avery Driver 3-pointer brought the game back to two points.

Brantley took a 36-32 lead late in the third period, but Straughn bounced back to cut its deficit to one at 37-36 going into the fourth period, where the game remained tight all the way until the end.

When the Bulldogs would take a short lead, the Tigers bounced back, nabbing steals and draining jumpers from mid-range.

The lead changed nine teams with the last 5:23 remaining in the contest.

With 41.1 seconds left in the game, Brantley made 6-of-10 from the free-throw line to seal the win out right.

Brantley’s OJ Guice and Chester Person led the Bulldogs with 17 points each.
