Andalusia defeated Daleville 70-56 in the Ozark Holiday Shootout Friday afternoon.

Coach Richard Robertson said the Bulldogs got a slow start, as they had in previous tournament games.

“We’re trying to teach them that when the ball comes down on tipoff, that’s when you start playing,” he said. “Area play starts next week, and we’ve got to be ready.”

The ‘Dogs, who went into the losers’ bracket after losing to Luverne Wednesday, led by only one point, 13-12, at the end of the first period.

At the half, Covington County native Troy Turman’s Daleville Warhawks had pulled ahead by one, 27-26.

A strong third quarter gave Andalusia a 47-36 lead, which they cinched with 23 points in the final period.

Jacard Townsend led the scoring for the ‘Dogs at 25, followed by Sam Byrd with 15, Joe Flowers with 12, Niguel Jones with 11, Lakelyus Adams with 3 and Ashton Evans with 2.

Daleville’s leading scorer was Jacques Coleman with 15, followed by Robert McGirt with 12 and Aaron Cope with 11.

The Bulldogs will play at Straughn Tuesday afternoon to open area play.
