The highlight of 2011 came when Straughn advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4A baseball state playoffs. The Tigers beat Oak Grove 2-1, but fell to eventual champion UMS-Wright in the semifinals in Mobile.

2. Eagles football team makes historyPleasant Home’s varsity football team made a historical run in the Class 1A state playoffs this season. The Eagles beat St. Jude 15-14 in over time to advance to their first second round playoff berth in school history.

3.12U softball team claims 3rd at Series. South Alabama’s 12U All-Stars softball team made its presence known at the 2011 Babe Ruth 12U Softball World Series in Andalusia, finishing in third place. The host team fell to runner-up Lodi, Calif. 5-2 in extra innings.

4. 2 AHS players make All-State football team. Jacard Townsend and CP Rogers were selected to the Class 4A ASWA All-State football team as linebacker and punter, respectively. Townsend had 65 total tackles, and Rogers averaged 40.6 yards per punt.

5. Andalusia finishes regular season 10-0. Andalusia’s varsity football team dominated the regular season, finishing undefeated for the first time since 1977. The Bulldogs beat rival Opp 21-13 in week 10. The Bulldogs fell in the first round against Elmore County.

6. Robertson gets 700th career win. Andalusia basketball coach Richard Robertson earned his 700th career win in the area tournament finals against Headland. The Bulldogs went on to finish their season at the regional finals.

7. 3 AHS tennis players get

to state semis. Chris Smith finished in the finals, and Aubrey Boyington fell in the semifinals of the Class 4A state tennis tournament. Josh Atkinson made an appearance in the Class 4A state golf tournament.

8. Lady Eagles finish 3rd at state tourney. Pleasant Home’s  Lady Eagles softball team finished in third place at the Class 1A state softball tournament in Montgomery. The Lady Eagles fell to rival Kinston in the elmination game.

9. 3 volleyball teams make substate. Andalusia, Opp and Pleasant Home made appearances in the substate round of the volleyball playoffs this season.

100. OHS, SHS make playoffs appearances. Opp and Straughn made state playoff appearances in the first round, along with Andalusia this season.
