Still time to be a college student

LBWCC’s spring semester began Monday, but school officials said it’s not to late to enroll in college classes.

“Our late registration runs through Jan. 12,” LBWCC marketing director Renee LeMaire said. “Classes began on the 9th for the full spring session and will end on May 8. There is also a mini-term session that ends on March 1. There are many different class options available to fit all schedules, so if you’re interested, just contact us.

Like many students who went back to school this week, Daniel Bolden of McKenzie said LBWCC was a “logical” choice.

Bolden plans to transfer to the University of Alabama at Huntsville and pursue a career as an engineer.

A self-proclaimed math geek, the Andalusia native said the local community college presented a perfect solution to his education needs.

“I went to college back in the ‘80s but went to work construction because I had to have a job,” he said. “I’m too old to be out there swinging a hammer, so I knew I had to do something else.”

Bolden said he’s worked building bridges, roads and the like, and somewhere along the way, he fell in love with math.

“That’s kind of what led me to engineering, and here I am,” he said.

His wife, Stephanie, works as a cashier at the Andalusia Fred’s store and had traveled to the Andalusia campus for lunch with her husband.

“It works out perfect – his going to school here,” she said. “We get up and ride together to town. He goes school, and I go to work.”

LeMaire said, “There’s a ton of information that can be found on our website at www.lbwcc.edu. We also offer dual enrollment classes for those still in high school wishing to get a jump start on their college career. Our staff is here to help, so if you’re interested, just give us a call.”
