Kart race, trade show is Friday, Saturday

Go-kart race fans, start your engines.

The fourth annual Alabama Karting Super Show will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Covington Center Arena.

This is the first time the karting show has been expanded into a two-day event because of the growing interest in the show, organizer Jody Pierce of Jody Pierce Performance said.

“It’s just a really big deal overall,” he said. “This is our fourth year doing it. We’ve always done it in Prattville.

“This year, we needed more space, and you guys had the perfect place,” he said.

Pierce said the kart race and trade show will be the largest in the Southeast and the east coast.

In addition to the trade show, there will be a national indoor dirt race with 12 classes and guaranteed pay outs. For the kids, the event will have swap meet booths inside the arena.

Pierce said the Camping World No. 6 truck will be on hand as well.

On Friday, racers and fans will get in the trade show for free, which will be from noon until 4 p.m.

The trade show on Saturday will be from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The chassis set up and tire seminar will be from 1-2 p.m., and the chassis raffle drawing will be at 3:45 p.m. Admission to Saturday’s trade show is $10 each for adults, $5 each for kids 4-8 years old and 3 and under get in free. Weekend passes are $35 for adults, $20 for kids 4-8 years, and 3 and under get in free.

Friday’s race schedule will begin at 5 p.m. when the pit gate opens. Registration and safety tech will be from 5:15 p.m. until 7 p.m. Practice is from 6:15 p.m. until 8 p.m. Qualifying starts at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday’s race schedule will begin at 5 p.m. when the pit game opens. Registration is from 5:15 p.m. until 6 p.m., practice is from 5:45 p.m until 6:30 p.m., and the races start at 7 p.m.

Grandstand tickets in the race arena on Saturday night cost $5 each. Kids 5 and under get in free. Cost is $20 for a family six or less.
