SHS boys, girls beat Rams

Trailing 9-2 in the first period, Straughn cut Headland’s lead to 10-9 at the end of the first period, had a strong showing in the second and fourth periods as the Tigers went on to beat the Rams 50-47 on Tuesday night at SHS.

With this victory, Straughn takes the lead in the area at 2-1 in Class 4A, Area 3. The Tigers are 6-9 overall.

Avery Driver led the Tigers with 17 points, four steals, four assists and six rebounds. JD Driver and Brice Scott chipped in 12 points each. JD added five rebounds and four assists.

Big man Hobie Hughes had seven points, but had a good night on the boards with 13 rebounds.

“They kind of pressured him (Hughes) pretty tough to keep the ball out of his hands,” SHS assistant coach Marc Tracy said. “He was able to get some looks, but was pressured pretty hard.”

On the Drivers and Scott, Tracy said each play with a lot of consistency.

In B-team action, Headland won 38-28.

In girls action, the Lady Tigers beat the Lady Rams 50-30.

Katelyn Kinsaul led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, and Brittany Driver chipped in 13 points.

The Lady Tigers improve to 14-3 overall, and 2-1 in the area.

Straughn will pay a visit to Andalusia on Tuesday to continue in area action.
